One Love Project

Poverty in Jamaica has increased in recent years. The result is that a larger proportion of the population falls below the poverty line and inequality has risen. Jamaica also has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Chris and Linda took a vacation to Jamaica from December 31st, 2016-January 7th, 2017 and wanted to spend a couple days doing a small Make-A-Dent project during their stay.

While enjoying a meal in Montego Bay, we made a dear friend named Mark, who kindly told us about his neighbor, Christina, who he believed deserved and needed some financial help. She is a single mom with 4 lovely children and lives half an hour inland.  We sat down with Christina and asked her what her needs are. She knew right away. "School supplies and clothes for my children," she said.  So off we went to take her shopping. School shoes, underwear, backpacks, lunchboxes, markers, pencils, paper, notebooks, textbooks...plus more! What a blast we had shopping around with Christina! She was so excited to be able to buy this stuff for her babies. She never once asked us to buy anything for her! Such an amazing mom.

After we finished shopping, we took a trip out to her place, got to see her home and met her children. Her son, Chris, climbed their island apple tree and picked some fruit for us to eat. Christina and her beautiful children all share a room with 2 beds in it. Their home was small but so full of love!

We felt blessed to have crossed paths with this incredible family and are so happy we were able to help them right before returning to school for their winter session.
